Gamescom 2014

13 Aug

Think you’ve seen it all? If you’ve never been to Gamescom, you ain’t seen nothing yet. The world’s largest trade fair for interactive games and entertainment, Gamescom lets you take the latest and greatest games for a test drive while celebrating the community.

Gamescon attendees are treated to “breathtaking indoor and outdoor performances, sensational live acts, and the latest highlights from the world of games.” ( Engage in retro gaming, giant table soccer, check out the phenomenal cosplay village or destroy your friends at laser tag.

Starting on the 13th, Gamescom is taking place in Cologne, Germany, and the pre-event buzz has already started–including an exciting livestream from PlayStation. If you missed the live-show, you can check out their rather in-depth recap which includes the first gameplay trailer for Bloodborne, new clips for Little Big Planet 3, and the reveal that Journey will be coming to PlayStation 4.

PlayStation wasn’t the only one getting in on the pre-show craze, Xbox also held a press-conference which gave us a tour around revolution torn Paris in Assassin’s Creed: Unity, teased us with the Fable Legends multiplayer going into beta this fall, and a first look at the Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta.

Which brings us to a Gamescom event that’s definitely on our watch list:

Halo: Master Chief Collection Showdown

Wednesday through Sunday at the Gamescom ESL Arena, 8 teams will be the first to get their hands on the Halo: Master Chief Collection. On the field of Halo 2: Anniversary, players will engage in a 4v4 brawl for $10,000.

The Grand Finale will take place Sunday, August 17th at 10:30am CEST, live on

And of course, no game event would be complete if we weren’t cheering on some of our more active members of the ASTRO Family.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Pro Bootcamp

While you’re anticipating the ultimate Halo showdown on Sunday, you can tune into Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Pro Bootcamp at the ESL Arena, Wednesday through Saturday. Twelve Pro Call of Duty Teams will have the opportunity to play Advanced Warfare in a series of show matches that will highlight a new set of weapons, perks, and game modes each day.

The action will be broadcast live on starting at 2pm CEST, every day–you can check out the ESL Bootcamp Schedule for full details.

It’s an envious week to be in Cologne, Germany, but we’ll be celebrating and sharing all the digital noms we can get our hands on.

As always, follow us on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram for all things ASTRO. Game on!
