Put on your shorts and t-shirt, grab your sunglasses, and get out to a range of UK events this Summer! Whether you’re a casual gamer who wants to play with his friends in a more relaxed environment, a pro player looking to compete at some of the major tournaments for big prize money, or a game enthusiast who wants to get out to the expos. This guide will help find the perfect activity/event for you.
Gfinity CoD Summer Championships
On the 31st July – 2nd August, sixteen of the world’s best Call of Duty teams will travel to the Gfinity Arena, London – to compete for a share of $100,000. The likes of OpTic Gaming, OpTicNation, FaZe Clan, Team Kaliber, Vitality.Storm, Epsilon.EU, Team Infused, TCM Gaming and Team EnVyUs are just some of the high calibre teams in attendance. If you’re an avid fan of the game, or teams attending, then be sure to get on down to the Gfinity Arena to watch all weekend.
The UK’s largest gaming festival is set to host its summer event on the August bank holiday weekend (28th-31st) – Ricoh Arena, Coventry. This is an event to suit everyone’s needs. From fun gaming activities, to major eSports tournaments across multiple games, and also a manufacturers & game developers exhibition hall. An estimated 4,000 gamers, and a further 25,000 visitors will take over the Ricoh Arena for one epic weekend of fun!
Want to get your hands on the latest title due to be released later this year, check out some new products from your favourite tech companies, or enjoy a bit of cosplay? Eurogamer’s the one for you! At it’s new illustrious venue, N.E.C. Birmingham. EGX is the place to be in September, 24th-27th. Want to try out Treyarch’s new, Black Ops 3? Maybe you want to see what Ubisoft has to offer with Assassins Creed Syndicate, or Rainbow 6 Siege? Get down there and join in the fun.
If you fancy something possibly more local, or not as large scale as the events listed above, there’s still CityLAN, 20th-22nd August – ABAX Stadium, Peterborough. Here you can find some small pay-to-play tournaments on select titles and other fun activities during the course of the weekend, with some bigger eSports tournaments also. This is definitely one where you can meet a lot of new friendly faces and have a great weekend of fun. From Minecraft to eSports, exhibitor stands to indie game developers, and even your favourite retro games of the past.
