Why Indies?

Indie games, by and large, have been overlooked by a large portion of gamers. Often times they fall victim to Fortune-500 marketing juggernauts. Regardless of why they have been overlooked, what is becoming more apparent is that they are hailed as the harbinger of innovation, and rightfully so. Indie games are not bound up and constrained by red tape and gobs of money, and so, are free to create ideas which constantly push how we define video games. For us here at ASTRO, the concept of driving innovation echos back to our own origin story within the gritty early days of eSports, when we were in search of a solution to improving communication in the ever-evolving gaming landscape.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of indie games, and admittedly I’m just beginning to scratch the surface of the massive amount of depth & exploration. Between distribution platforms like Steam Greenlight, awards showcases such as the Independent Games Festival and conferences like the Games Developer Conference, there’s much to explore. I wanted to take the ASTRO Family with me as I delve into the world of indie games.

I want to tell the story of indie games, both to educate those who may not have an eye towards that scene, and to help the indie developers spread the word of their successes. This subject goes hand-in-hand with the core values at our company. What better way to authentically live those values than to give back to the very people who will keep our industry alive and thriving?

I look forward to sharing my journey with the Fam, and I hope you enjoy what there is to uncover along the way! Until next time!
